TSPRA Executive Director
Overview
The Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) executive director will implement the strategic vision of the incorporated, non-profit 501(c)(3) education association as defined by the TSPRA Executive Committee. In addition, the executive director will oversee and implement the day-to-day operations of the organization and is the lead staff member for the association at its Austin-area headquarters. An important aspect of the role is to serve as TSPRA’s representative in all matters related to the association at both a state and national level.
Duties and Responsibilities
The specific duties and responsibilities of the executive director include but are not limited to the following:

Key proponent for the association, its members and for the role of school communications in public schools and school districts

Provide ongoing support and resources to association members

Manage and support the organization’s efforts to grow membership

Manage and support the organization’s efforts to grow sponsorships

Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the association

Sustain the fiscal integrity of the association through effective planning and oversight of the annual budget

Plan, manage and oversee all aspects and details of the the annual TSPRA conference including:
- Identifying and scheduling high-quality speakers and presenters
- Securing partnerships with sponsors
- Negotiating with hotels and other vendors
- Coordinating with the TSPRA executive committee leadership on conference planning
- Coordinate all correspondence to the membership with the executive committee and committee chairs
- Plan and prepare agendas for executive committee meetings and other standing and ad hoc committees
- Keep the executive committee informed on key issues and operations of the organization
- Hire, supervise, direct and evaluate the TSPRA staff member(s)
- Coordinate awards programs
- Manage, update and maintain the TSPRA membership database
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the organization
- Implement the organization’s bylaws by providing advice and counsel to the executive committee
- Maintain and build new strategic relationships with public and private alliances
- Work collaboratively with NSPRA and state organizations on special projects and other coordinations that are mutually beneficial
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Minimum of 10 years of work experience in a related field professional capacity
- Experience in managing staff in a professional capacity
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in working at or managing a professional association, or involvement on association or non-profit boards
- Experience in school communications, school administration, public relations or communications
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of business operations
- Preferred Certified Administrative Executive (CAE) credentials or agree to pursue the CAE credentials within two-four years in the position
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills

- 210 work-day calendar (off for federal holidays and several non-duty days comparable to a school district calendar; allows for 4-day work weeks in the summer months)
- (NOTE: The TSPRA office in Austin will be the executive director’s primary work location. Working remotely will be allowed as needed and to provide flexibility.)
